Hebocon is a wonderfully weird robot competition that started in Japan, where engineering perfection is not the goal — and that’s exactly the point! Instead of high-tech, super-advanced machines, Hebocon celebrates robots that are clumsy, quirky, barely functional, and sometimes hilariously unpredictable.
The name “Hebocon” comes from the Japanese word heboi, which means “poor quality” or “not very good.” Participants build their robots using simple materials, everyday items, or anything they can get their hands on.
Hebocon isn’t about winning with the strongest or smartest robot. It’s about creativity, laughter, and proving that anyone can build a robot — no engineering degree required!
